From 15th to 18th December, 1914, the 2nd Coldstream Guards of 4 Brigade, 2nd Division, were in trenches at Rue l’Epinette near Estaires after which they moved back to billets in Locon where they remained until 26th December. The battalion diary recorded that on 26th December, 2nd Coldstream Guards moved to billets at Essars but it has no mention of any action nor of any casualties which means that there is no explanation concerning the death of George Whilems who was killed on that day. Perhaps the date was recorded incorrectly or maybe he was attached to another unit at the time. |
